Getting Excited was not an early house culture record, and I can't find evidence that it was ever stocked as an import in Chicago. It really should have been though. This track is like a Salsoul break extended to a full length track, which is an innovation that early house producers pioneered.

Why Wasn't It Played In 1983?

It's likely that this track was never stocked as an import in Chicago, and it's doubtful that anyone in Chicago ever knew that it existed. One reason is that the record was released on independent label "Out To Lunch", that had limited distribution and only ever put out two records. It was probably also the A side that was promoted by the label, instead of the proto-house B side. Therefore this was an obscure track by an obscure British label.

When Was It Rediscovered?

Getting Excited by Copycats was recognised as a proto-house classic when it was rediscovered by DJs decades later. It was featured in the BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix by 2manydjs in 2022.
