Amama By Pink Project
Amama was released in 1982 by Italo Disco band Pink Project on their album Domino. Pink Project was a collaboration between Stefano Pulga and Luciano Ninzatti (a.k.a. Kano a.k.a. Dharma). By the time Amama was released they had already achieved Italo disco royalty status. Although this is an album track, it was released as a double disc vinyl album so that each track is a high quality pressing that's suitable for DJs.
The Concept Band
Amama is the only fully original track on the album Domino. The concept of Pink Project was to create mashups. Pink Project's concept of mashups was based on the popularity of disco medleys in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Every other track on the album is a blending of two tracks. This is similar to the bootleg concept from a decade later, except Pink Project re-recorded all the elements of the mashup tracks. Amama isn't a mashup. It's a fully original track. Although the mashup is an interesting concept, Amama is the best track on the album. An edited version of Amama was released on the B side of Smoke Like A Man, but the album version of Amama is the better version.
Italo Royalty
Pink Project was a concept band, but the producers behind it were already big names to Chicago DJs at the time. War by Kano and Plastic Doll by Dharma were previous hits by the duo. The Hot Mix 5 and Ron Hardy were already buying everything they released.
